Introduction

This section is designed to assist standard users in the hospitality industry, to learn the basics of operating Amicus.  Some of the advice given below will be more or less relevant to your individual situation and will depend on your individual configuration and hardware.

As a standard user, there are a few common tasks which you will likely be required to perform, as follows;

  • Step 1 - Getting Around - Most standard users will have access to a variety of screens.  The most common of which is the "Main Screen" .  From here, you will be able to access all other Amicus functionality, provided that you have sufficient security rights to do so.  Refer to the Managing Roles  article for more information on security rights.  If you are new to Amicus, it is recommended that you read the article Main Screen , once you are happy with navigating your way around the main screen, please continue reading.
  • Step 2 - Creating Orders - There are three separate methods for creating meal orders.  The one you use will depend on your specific business environment.  Please select the category that best relates to your business model from the list below and then read through the relevant articles;
          • Cafe - Meal Orders - Meal orders are the corner stone of Amicus hospitality.  They allow a user to add menu items, with options and sizes to an order, so that an Order Docket can be sent to the kitchen for preparation.  This method of making Meal Orders presumes that the customer will pay for the goods at the time of ordering and that there is no for Amicus to record diner or table information.  Currently, this is not an integral part of this manual.  For more information on creating Meal Orders in this environment, please see the Other Documents article on how to request the "Hospitality Operator.pdf" document.
          • Restaurant - Table Service Orders - This method requires a user to select a table and then links added items to a specific diner or the table.  It also presumes that orders will be paid for after the diner(s) have completed eating and/or drinking, but does allow for full or partial prepayments, split payment by diner(s) or item(s).  For more information on creating Meal Orders in this environment, please see the Other Documents article on how to request the "Hospitality Operator.pdf" document.  In the meantime, please read through the following Table Service articles;
          • Delivery - Delivery Orders - This module allows users to add delivery order items such as pizzas to an order.  Unlike the other order dialog variants, it also allows for customer selection a delivery detail management from this screen.  Using this dialog will also send the Delivery Orders to the kitchen, and from there, they will be prepared for the Delivery Drivers.  The documentation for this module is still being constructed.  For more information on creating Meal Orders in this environment, please see the Other Documents article on how to request the "Hospitality Operator.pdf" document, explicitly noting your need for the "Delivery Module" information.  In the meantime, you will find it useful to read the generic articles for Table Service Order as indicated above, as they share much of the same logic.
  • Step 3 - Sales  - Some hospitality environments, such as cafes, may also require you to make sales.  If your business fits in to this category, then you may wish to read the following sales articles.  Sale creation is designed to be extremely easy with the only base requirements being that you add items to the sale, select a payment method (such as cash or cheque) and end the sale.  Depending on your individual business needs, you may also be required to interact with other devices such as EFTPOS terminals, or record additional information.  To assist you to learn about making sales, we have included some practical 'How To' guides which you should now read.  Please select articles from the following list that relate to your business needs;
  • Step 4 - Other Documentation And Material- There are a number of other documents designed to assist users in carrying out their primary business roles.  Refer to the  Other Documents article for a full list of these, and where you can get a copy.  In regards to your specific role, we recommend the following;
