An example of one such third party program is the FRED (Fast Reliable Easy Dispensing) system which is used in pharmacies primarily for dispensing prescriptions. FRED communicates with NBS Amicus via its standard POS feed. For more information about FRED, visit the Web site of its creators PCA NU Systems (www.pcanu.com.au).

To activate the FRED dispensary link, place a tick mark in the Enable Fred Transaction processing every … seconds check box, and then nominate how often you wish to synchronise the data files, which, by default, is set to 15 seconds. The other required piece of information involves setting the details of the Full pathname to FRED transaction file. This information can be either typed in manually or you can browse your network using the Select File option.

Note: when the Enable Fred Transaction processing every … seconds option is activated, an Add Dispensary Item button will be shown on the Enter Sale screen (for information about this, refer to the Pharmacy Fast Sales section in the Standard User guide).

Within most pharmacies, a significant percentage of prescription items are sold to customers on a cash basis, and therefore there is no need to store the details of these types of customers in NBS Amicus. To cater for this situation, the sale of prescription items is, by default within NBS Amicus, automatically assigned as cash sales, unless otherwise specified at the time of purchase. If required, a customer name can still be selected during the sale process by deleting the term ‘CASH, SALE’ in the Name field on the Enter Sale screen and inputting the customer name using the standard search and select process. Note: if a customer name is selected prior to the prescription items being allocated to a sale, the customer name will not be over-written by a cash sale. However, at any time, NBS Amicus administrators can nominate that accounts be created for all customers who purchase prescription items by placing a tick mark in the checkbox labelled Automatically assign sales to a customer account in the FRED Dispensary section of the Integration tab.
