About importing and exporting data

There are several ways to import and export data: using the Import and Export Wizards, importing or exporting records attached to e-mail messages, importing or exporting product lists and drop-down list values, and export list view data to Microsoft Excel.

Using the Import and Export Wizards, an Administrator or Manager user can import data to and export data from ACT! databases and other software programs. For example, you can import records from another ACT! database or from another program such as Microsoft Outlook or Palm OS Desktop. You can export records to another ACT! database or to a delimited text file.

When you import or export data, you may have to assign, or map, the data to the other program's fields. If you import or export data to or from another ACT! database, many fields are mapped by default, but you can change the mapping and save a custom map. If you import contact data from another program or file, you can use one of several predefined maps included with ACT! Premium for Web Server.

You can also set up merge options to specify how ACT! Premium for Web Server identifies potential duplicate contact, group, and company records when you import from or export to another program or ACT! database.

Standard users and above can import or export ACT! contact, company, or group records that are attached to e-mail messages.

An Administrator or Manager user can import and export product lists and drop-down list values. Product lists are associated with opportunities.

Standard users and above can export data from the Contact List, Group List, Company List and Opportunity List views.
