Delivering remote databases

When you deliver a remote database, you must instruct the user on how to install, or unpack and restore, a remote database before using it. If a database file is password protected, you must provide the password. You can use the following paragraphs as a sample message on how to instruct the user, or you can cut and paste this message into an e-mail, readme file, or other documentation when you deliver a remote database:

The attached file contains an ACT! database with an .rdb extension. To install the database, please save this file to your local drive (make a note of the location where you save it), and then follow the instructions in ACT! Help for "Unpacking and restoring a remote database."  

NOTE: This file is not password protected. You do not require a password to install this database.

or

NOTE: This file is password protected. You will need the following password to install your database. PASSWORD:  <password>

To deliver a remote database

  1. After creating a remote database, locate it in the directory where you stored it.

  2. To deliver the remote database, place it in a shared folder, copy it to a CD, or place it on your FTP site.

  3. Tell your users how to install the database by sending them a message like the one described above.
