Security and synchronization
The following describes the synchronization functions that users of a main database and remote database can or cannot perform. If you are an Administrator or Manager user, you should be familiar with the security permissions for each user's role before you set up synchronization. For more information, see About user roles and permissions.
Main database
The following applies to the main database and users of the main database.
Users with Administrator or Manager roles can set up synchronization.
Remote databases are created, disabled, and re-recreated on a main database.
Schema changes, such as defining fields, can be made.
Users with Administrator or Manager roles can define and modify Sync Sets and Subscription Lists for any remote database.
Users with Administrator or Manager roles can print synchronization settings for any remote database.
Remote database
The following applies to remote databases and users of remote databases.
Remote databases cannot create other remote databases.
Synchronization is initiated by Standard users and above.
Users with an Administrator or Manager role can create and modify Sync Sets. However, only the main database can create a remote database using the Sync Sets created on the remote database.
Users with a Standard and above role can modify the Subscription List for a remote database they belong to.
Users with a Standard and above role can modify synchronization schedules and print synchronization settings for the remote database they belong to.
Customizations, such as adding fields and activity types, cannot be made.
Scheduling resources is not available in a remote database, but scheduled resources in activities are displayed in a remote database.
