Linking contacts to companies

You have the ability to link a contact to a company. The link can be seen in the company field of the contact record. Linking a contact to a company provides benefits such as updating contact information with company fields and automatically associating activities, notes, histories, and opportunities to that linked company.

A contact can be a member of multiple companies, but can only be linked to one company.

To link a contact to a company

  1. From the Contact Detail window, click the browse (...) button next to the Company field.

The Link to Company dialog box appears.

  1. Select the company you would like to link the contact to. Press F1 for more help.

The linked contacts are now static members of the company and all of their notes, activities, etc, will appear in the tabs.

You can set a preference to automatically link contacts to their company record from the Startup tab of the Preferences dialog box.

To disable the company link

  1. From the Contact Detail window, click the browse (...) button next to the Company field.

  2. From the Disable Company Link message box, click OK to confirm that you want to disable the link.

The auto-association between the contact and the company is disabled.
