Data types define the value a field can accept, such as text or numbers.
About fields and field attributes
You can modify or add fields to any contact, group, or company layout. You can also specify field attributes, such as the size of the field, whether it is a text or numeric field, and whether it includes a drop-down list. You can also set "triggers" for fields so that they launch an application or activity series when you enter or exit a field or change information in it.
For Opportunity Fields 1-8, you can only change the attributes for Field name and Field length. |
You can add special data types called annual events. You can perform a lookup to view annual event fields, such as birth dates, anniversaries, or policy renewals. You can also add Address and Phone data types. Address and Phone data types have several fields associated with them so that when you add an Address or Phone data type, you add the associated fields. The address fields are: Address 1-3, City, Country, State, and ZIP Code. The phone fields are: Phone and Extension.
You must be an Administrator or Manager and have exclusive access to the database to modify or create fields. If multiple users have access to the database, you will be asked to lock the database before you can make changes. Users using a remote database cannot use the Define Fields feature. |
For more information, see the Customization Tour.
When you create a database, certain fields are defined as core fields, such as the Contact field. You cannot delete core fields. |
