Unpacking and restoring remote databases

Before you can begin using a remote database and synchronizing data, you must unpack and restore the remote database.

If an existing database (non-remote) has the same name as the remote database you are unpacking and restoring, you must delete, or move, the existing database prior to restoring the remote database.

To unpack and restore a remote database

  1. From the File menu, point to Restore, and then click Database.

  2. In the Restore Database dialog box, select Unpack and Restore Remote Database, and then click OK.

The Unpack and Restore Remote Database dialog box appears. For field definitions, press F1.

  1. In the Select the remote database file to restore field, type the name and location of the remote database you want to restore or click Browse to locate the file.

The file will have an RDB extension.

  1. In the Database Location field, type the location for the restored database or click Browse to select a location.

  2. To share the remote database with other users, select Share this database with other users.

  3. If you are restoring a database with a password-protected file, type the Password, and then click OK. The Administrator must provide the password.

Once the database is restored, you can open it and begin using ACT!. Then, you can synchronize your data at any time.
