Looking up by example

You can use the Lookup By Example dialog box to create a query to search for contacts, companies, or groups.

To look up by example

  1. On the navigation bar, click the Contacts, Groups, or Companies button for the type of record to search for.

  2. From the Lookup menu, click By Example.

  3. In the Lookup By Example dialog box, type a keyword in one or more of the fields. The fields are different for contacts, companies, or groups searches.

For example, you could search for all contacts with the title of CEO that reside in the state of California.

  1. Click Search.

  2. At the Run Query Options dialog box, select one of the options, and then click OK.

You can Replace lookup, Add to lookup, or Narrow lookup. Not all options are available for each search. For more information, see Narrowing, adding to, and replacing a lookup.

The results appear in the Contact, Company, or Group List.
