Selecting the default text format for e-mail messages

You can select the default text format for e-mail messages or you can select the text format when writing a message.

Depending on the mail system that sends the messages, the Preferences setting might be overridden. For example, Outlook Express can only send plain text messages.

To select the default text format for e-mail messages

  1. From the Tools menu, click Preferences.

  2. Click the E-mail tab, and then click Composing Options. Press F1 for field definitions.

  3. In the Composing Options dialog box, in the Send e-mails in field, select HTML or Plain Text, and then click OK.

To select the text format when writing a message

  1. Write or open an e-mail message, click the Format menu, and then select HTML or Plain Text.

  2. If you changed from HTML to Plain Text, click Yes in the message box.
