Aligning fields and objects in layouts

You can align fields and objects in one of the panels on a layout by selecting the fields and setting the alignment option. For example, you can align the fields and objects in one of the tab panels, such as the User Fields panel, but you cannot align the fields and objects for multiple panels, such as the User Fields panel and the fields in the top area of the layout.

To align fields or objects with one another in a layout

  1. Open the Layout Designer.

  2. Select the fields or objects to align with one another. For information about selecting multiple objects, see Selecting more than one object in a report template or layout.

Fields and objects will align with the first one you select.

  1. From the Format menu, point to Align, and then click Lefts, Centers, Rights, Tops, Middles, or Bottoms depending on how you want to align the items you selected.

The options determine how the selected objects align horizontally in relation to the first item you select. For example, if you select a rectangle and an oval, and then select Lefts, the oval moves so that its left edge aligns vertically with the rectangle's left edge.
