Open an Access project

Microsoft Office Access 2003

  • On the File menu, click Open Button image.
  • Click a shortcut on the left side of the Open dialog box, or, in the Look in box, click the drive or folder that contains the Microsoft Access project (.adp) that you want.
  • In the folder list, double-click folders until you open the folder that contains the Access project.

If you can't find the Access project that you want to open, click Tools in the upper-right corner of the Open dialog box, and then click Search. In the Search dialog box, enter additional search criteria.

  • Click the Access project that you want to open, and then do one of the following:
    • To open the Access project, click Open.
    • To open the Access project for read-only access, click the Open arrow, and then click Open Read-Only.

You can open an Access project only in exclusive mode. If you attempt to open an Access project while another user has it open, Access prompts you to open a read-only copy of the file.

  • Note  When you open an Access project in read-only mode, you can still add or modify data, and create or modify tables, views, database diagrams, or stored procedures, because the data and these objects reside in the Microsoft SQL Server. However, you can't create or modify forms, reports, macros, or modules, because these objects reside in the Access project.
