Troubleshoot unavailable commands

Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003

  • On the Tools menu, click Page Options, and then click the Authoring tab.

Unavailable commands and features

The following items are the commands or features that might become unavailable because of authoring settings.

ShowMenu commands

Unavailable commands Possible cause

Database

One or more of the following is true:

  • Your Web server administrator may have turned off support for this feature.
  • The Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) component might not be installed on the Web Server.

Dynamic HTML Effects

Dynamic HTML Effects is not available as a default menu command.

You can add the Dynamic HTML Effects command to a menu.

ShowHow?

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize.

  2. Click the Commands tab.

  3. In the Categories list, click Format, and then in the Commands list, click Dynamic HTML Effects.

  4. Drag the command to the menu you want.

Import (on the Packages submenu)

One of the following is true:

  • Your Web site is not located on a server running Windows SharePoint Services.
  • Your Web site is disk-based.

Interactive Button

On the Authoring tab, the JavaScript/JScript check box is cleared.

Layer

On the Authoring tab, the JavaScript/JScript check box is cleared.

Page Transition

On the Authoring tab, the CSS 1.0 (formatting) check box is cleared.

Position

On the Authoring tab, either the CSS 1.0 (formatting) or CSS 2.0 (positioning) check box is cleared.

Shared Borders

One or both of the following is true:

  • On the Authoring tab, the Shared Borders check box is cleared.

  • You do not have a Web site open.

Style

On the Authoring tab, the CSS 1.0 (formatting) check box is cleared.

Style Sheet Links

On the Authoring tab, the CSS 1.0 (formatting) check box is cleared.

ShowTask pane commands

Unavailable commands Possible cause

Cell Properties and Borders, Cell Header and Footer, and Cell Corners and Shadows (in the Cell Formatting task pane)

You have selected a standard table or cell, not a layout table or cell.

Create (in the Conditional Formatting task pane)

You have not made a selection in a data view.

Insert (in the Behaviors task pane)

On the Authoring tab, the JavaScript/JScript check box is cleared.

ShowDialog box options

Unavailable commands Possible cause

ActiveX Control

  • On the Authoring tab:
    • The ActiveX controls check box is cleared.
    • The SharePoint Services check box is selected.
    • Either Netscape Navigator or Both Internet Explorer and Navigator is selected under Browsers.

Note  This feature is not available on a Web site located on a server running Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services.

Banner Ad Manager

Banner Ad Manager is not available as an option in the Insert Web Component dialog box.

You can manually add the Banner Ad Manager command to a menu.

ShowHow?

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize.

  2. Click the Commands tab.

  3. In the Categories list, click Insert, and then in the Commands list, click Banner Ad Manager.

  4. Drag the command to the menu you want.

CSS1.0 (on the Authoring tab)

On the Authoring tab, the CSS 2.0 (positioning) check box is cleared.

Document Library View

One of the following is true:

  • Your Web site is not located on a server running SharePoint Team Services v1.0 from Microsoft.
  • On the Authoring tab, the SharePoint Services check box is cleared.

Note  To add a SharePoint list to a Web site on a server running Windows SharePoint Services, use a list view or data view Web Part.

Frames (missing dialog box tab)

On the Authoring tab, the Frames check box is cleared.

Hover Button

Hover Button is not available as an option in the Insert Web Component dialog box.

You can add the Hover Button command to a menu.

ShowHow?

  1. On the Tools menu, click Customize.

  2. Click the Commands tab.

  3. In the Categories list, click Insert, and then in the Commands list, click Hover Button.

  4. Drag the command to the menu you want.

List View

One of the following is true:

  • Your Web site is not located on a server running SharePoint Team Services v1.0 .
  • The SharePoint Services check box is cleared on the Authoring tab.

Note  To add a SharePoint list to a Web site on a server running Windows SharePoint Services, use a list view or data view Web Part.

Marquee

Either Netscape Navigator only or Both Internet Explorer and Navigator is selected under Browsers.

PNG-8 and PNG-24

On the Authoring tab, the PNG graphics check box is cleared.

Rules (missing dialog box tab)

Your Web site is not located on a server running SharePoint Team Services v1.0.

Note  This feature is not available on a Web site located on a server running Windows SharePoint Services.

Spreadsheets and charts

On the Authoring tab, the ActiveX controls check box is cleared.

Style button (on various Properties dialog boxes)

On the Authoring tab, either the CSS 1.0 (formatting) or CSS 2.0 (positioning) check box is cleared.

Use background picture

Either Netscape Navigator only or Both Internet Explorer and Navigator is selected under Browsers.

ShowToolbar options

Unavailable commands Possible cause

AutoShapes (on the Drawing toolbar)

On the Authoring tab, the VML graphics (Office drawing) check box is cleared.

Dynamic HTML (toolbar)

The Dynamic HTML toolbar is not turned on by default.

You can turn on the Dynamic HTML toolbar.

ShowHow?

On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click DHTML Effects.

ShowUnexpected action

Action Possible cause

No downlevel image file is created when you insert a drawing object.

On the Authoring tab, the Downlevel image file check box is cleared.

ShowBrowser settings

The following table shows options and features that Microsoft FrontPage either disables or makes unavailable depending on the browser settings you choose on the Authoring tab. If you reselect a cleared check box, your browser settings may change to Custom.
