Create an outline or multi-level list
- In Page view, at the bottom of the document window, click Design .
- Place the insertion point where you want to create an outline or multi-level list.
- On the Format menu, click Bullets and Numbering, and then click the Numbers tab.
- Click the box with the style of numbers or letters that you want to start with, and then click OK.
- For each item or line of text that you want in the outline or multi-level list, regardless of its level, type the text, and then press ENTER.
- When you have typed the last item, press ENTER twice to end the list.
- To place each item on the correct level, do one of the following:
- To move items down to the next consecutive level, select the items, and then click Increase Indent
twice.
- To format items as a paragraph on the current level (without bullets or numbering), select the items, and then click Increase Indent
once.
- To move items up to previous level(s), select the items, and then click Decrease Indent
one or more times, as needed.
- To apply numbering or lettering styles to the different levels, select an item on a level or sublevel, right-click, and then click List Properties on the shortcut menu.
- On the Numbers tab, click the box with the style you want to use.
