  • The destination may have been entered incorrectly     Make sure the hyperlink destination is correct.
  • The original destination may have moved to a different location    Use your Internet browser to locate the destination to ensure that it still exists.

ShowWhen I click a hyperlink, it returns a 404 error message.

This can be caused by one of the following:

  • The destination may have moved or may no longer exist    Verify that the file exists by viewing the destination file with your Internet Web browser (if the file is on the Internet), or with Microsoft Windows Explorer (if the file is on your hard drive or a network).
  • You may not have access to the destination    If the destination file is on the Internet, make sure you have a connection to the Internet.
  • There may be a technical problem    If you believe that the file you are linking to exists, and that you have permission to link to it, try deleting your temporary Internet files.

    ShowHow?

    1. Open Internet Explorer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
    3. Under Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files.

ShowMy hyperlink goes to the wrong frame.

This is often caused by incorrectly setting up the target frame for your hyperlink. To change the target frame, do the following:

  1. In Page view, at the bottom of the document window, click Design Button image.
  2. Click the hyperlink, and then click Insert Hyperlink Button image.
  3. In the Insert Hyperlink dialog box, click Target Frame and then do one of the following:

ShowChoose a target frame within your frames page

    • In the Target Frame dialog box, the Current frames page area shows a map of your frames page. Click the frame you would like to set as the target frame.

ShowChoose a target frame outside your frames page (in a new window)

    • In the Target Frame dialog box, under Common targets, click New Window.

ShowMy screen tip doesn't appear when I hover on my hyperlink.

Microsoft FrontPage uses the title attribute to specify the screen tip for a hyperlink. Some Web browsers do not support the title attribute.
