Add a link bar to a Web page

  1. Open your Web site in Page view.
  2. Place the insertion point where you want to add the link bar.
  3. On the Insert menu, click Navigation.
  4. In the Component type list, click Link Bars.
  5. Do one of the following:

ShowAdd a link bar with custom links

  1. In the Choose a bar type list, click Bar with custom links, and then click Next.
  2. Click the link bar style that you want to use for this link bar.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Click the page orientation that you want, and then click Finish.
  5. Do one of the following:

    ShowAdd a new link bar

    1. Click Create new.
    2. Type a name for the new link bar, and then click OK.
    3. Click Add link.
    4. In the Text to display box, type the text that you want to appear on the link bar, and then click OK.
    5. Locate and click the page that you want the custom link bar to link to.
    6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each link that you want to add to the link bar.
    7. To set the order for how you want site visitors to view the links on the link bar, click the Move up or Move down button.

    ShowAdd an existing link bar

    • Under Choose existing, click the name of the link bar that you want to use, and then click OK.

  1. In the Choose a bar type list, click Bar with back and next links, and then click Next.
  2. Click the link bar style that you want to use for this link bar.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Click the page orientation that you want, and then click Finish.
  5. Do one of the following:

    ShowCreate a new link bar

    1. Click Create new.
    2. Type a name for the new link bar, and then click OK.
    3. Click Add link.
    4. In the Text to display box, type the text (such as back or next) that you want to appear on the link bar.
    5. Locate and click the page that you want to link to from the custom link bar, and then click OK.
    6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for each link that you want to add to the link bar.
    7. To set the order for how you want site visitors to view the links on the link bar, click the Move up or Move down button.

    Note  Depending on where it is in the list, you can link to an external page by using the Back or Next link on the link bar. However, you cannot add the same link bar to a page that is not in the active Web site.

    ShowUse an existing link bar

    • In the Choose existing box, click the name of the link bar that you want to use, and then click OK.

ShowAdd a link bar based on the navigation structure

Note  To add a link bar based on the navigation structure, you must have already created the navigation structure for your Web site in Navigation view.

  1. In the Choose a bar type list, click Bar based on navigation structure, and then click Next.
  2. Click the link bar style that you want to use for this link bar.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Click the page orientation that you want, and then click Finish.
  5. Under Hyperlinks to add to page, click the hyperlink options for the link bar that you want to add, and then click OK.

    ShowTip

    When performing this procedure, consider the level of the page that you are adding the link bar to. For example, if you are adding a link bar to your home page, choose either Child pages under Home or Child level to link to the pages at a level beneath the home page.
