Encode an XML file

Warning  Depending on the content type, if you reload or save the XML file as a different encoding, you can lose the contents of the file.

1. On the File menu, click Open.
2. Locate and click the XML file that you want, and then click Open.

   Before you encode an XML file, it is recommended that you save a backup copy.

3. Right-click the document window, and then click Encoding on the shortcut menu.
4. Do one of the following:
   • To reload the file, in the Reload the current file as box, click a different encoding, and then click Reload.
   • To save the file, in the Save current file as list, click the encoding you want, and then click Save As.
