Troubleshoot frames

On frames pages that you create by using frames page templates in Microsoft FrontPage, the target frames are already set up for you. You can override the target frame for a single hyperlink, or change the default target frame for all hyperlinks on a page.

  1. Open the frames page that contains the hyperlink.
  2. In Page view, at the bottom of the document window, click Design Button image.
  3. Select the hyperlink, and then click Insert Hyperlink Button image.
  4. Do one or both of the following:

    ShowChange the target frame for a single link

    1. In the Edit Hyperlink dialog box, click Target Frame.
    2. In the Target Frame dialog box, click the frame where you want the page to open.

      The Current frames page area shows a diagram of the frames on the page.

    ShowChange the default target frame for all hyperlinks on the page

    1. In the Edit Hyperlink dialog box, click Target Frame.
    2. In the Target Frame dialog box, click the frame where you want the page to open.

      The Current frames page area shows a diagram of the frames on the page.

    3. To designate the target frame you selected as the default target frame for all the hyperlinks on the page, select the Set as page default check box.

ShowWhen I click a hyperlink, I want the page to open in a new browser window.

On frames pages that you create by using templates in Microsoft FrontPage, the target frames are already set up for you. You can change the default target frame so that when a site visitor clicks on a hyperlink, a new browser window opens.

  1. Open the frames page that contains the hyperlink.
  2. In Page view, at the bottom of the document window, click Design Button image.
  3. Select the hyperlink, and then click Insert Hyperlink Button image.
  4. In the Edit Hyperlink dialog box, click Target Frame to change the target frame from the default.
  5. In the Target Frame dialog box, under Common targets, select New Window.

ShowI can't see all my documents listed on the page tabs.

If you have created so many files that not all of them are visible on the page tabs, you will need to do one of the following:

  • To make one more tab to the left visible, click Button image.
  • To make one more tab to the right visible, click Button image.

ShowI want to edit the HTML code of a nested frames page.

When you are editing a nested frames page, you can also edit the HTML code, but you must first open that page in a new window.

  1. In Page view, at the bottom of the document window, click Design Button image.
  2. Right-click anywhere on the page, and then click Open Page in New Window on the shortcut menu.
  3. At the bottom of the document window, click Code Button image to edit the HTML code of the page.

ShowMicrosoft FrontPage won't let me open a frames page template.

Support for frames might be turned off. To check your authoring settings, do the following:

  1. In Page view, at the bottom of the document window, click Design Button image.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Page Options.
  3. Click the Authoring tab.
  4. Check to make sure that the check box next to Frames is selected.
