Using the Database Results Wizard with ASP.NET

Important   The following procedures will not work on a Web site located on a server running Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services.

By using the Database Results Wizard on a Web site hosted on a server running ASP.NET, you can create Web pages to view and search database records.

Security  Use this feature with caution. Sensitive or confidential information could be revealed to others, such as other authors of your Web site, or site visitors on the Internet or your intranet.

ShowStart the Database Results Wizard

  • On the Insert menu, point to Database, and then click Results.

ShowSpecify ASP.NET as the server technology and the database connection

  1. In the FrontPage has detected that your page will display best using area, make sure to select the check box for ASP.NET, so that your pages will work correctly on a Web site located on a server running ASP.NET.
  2. Specify the database connection you want.

ShowSpecify the record source

Do one of the following:
  • To select the table or view you want, click Record Source.
  • To create a custom query, click Custom Query, and then click Edit.

ShowSpecify the fields to be displayed on the database results page

You can do one or both of the following:
  • To exclude fields from appearing in the database results region or to change the order in which they appear, click Edit List.
  • To filter, limit, or sort the database results, to set up a search form, or to provide default values for the search, click More Options.

ShowSpecify the formatting options for the database results region

  • You can format the database results region as a data grid.

ShowSpecify whether to display all records together or to split them into groups

You can do the following:

  • You can specify whether to display all of the records together or to split them into groups of records with buttons to move forward or backward through the records.

  • Additionally, if you specified that you wanted to use a field as a search field in the previous page of the wizard, you can specify here that you want to add a search form to your page.
