2.2.2 Using a Modeling Tool

Logical models benefit the System Analysts, Designers, Developers and End-Users as well as the final application. For example, using a logical model will:

  • highlight problems earlier so less rebuilding is required
  • make the data in the application easier to understand by providing the "big picture" of the information
  • document relationships within the application for the Builder
  • re-use the work done by the system designer so that the developer does not have to repeat it
  • improve productivity by creating fields, files, validations, access routes for using templates, help text, etc.

Although you do not have to use a logical data model or object action model to work with LANSA, there are significant advantages to modeling. We strongly recommend using the LANSA modeling tool and modeling techniques to develop new applications.
