Processing Assemblies — General information
For each transaction, you enter the following:
-
Assembly Number (a number to distinguish the transaction from other assemblies for audit control purposes).
Press the Tab key to accept a program-generated number.
-
Description (add any information you want about the assembly; optional).
-
Reference (for example, the reason you are assembling the master items; optional).
-
Date (of the transaction).
-
Year and Period (to which you want to post the transaction in the general ledger).
-
Master Item Number (of the master stock item for which you are assembling units).
You cannot enter assemblies for non-stock items.
-
BOM Number (the number of the bill of material to use for assembling units of the master item).
You can view and edit the bill of material you specify, by clicking the Zoom button beside this field to display the Bills Of Material form.
-
Component Assembly Method (you can choose to assemble no subassemblies, all component subassemblies in the master build quantity, or assemble only those subassemblies with insufficient quantities to complete the master item build quantities)
-
Location (the inventory location of the component items and the location where the assembled master items will be stocked).
If you did not select the Allow Items At All Locations option in the Options form, you can post the transaction only if you previously allowed the master item and its component items to be stocked at the specified inventory location.
-
Build Quantity (the number of master items that is produced from one assembly of the bill of material; supplied by the program from the bill of material record).
-
Quantity (the number of master items to assemble, which must be a multiple of the build quantity).
The quantity must be a multiple of the number in the Build Quantity field. For example, if the build quantity for the bill of material is 25, then you must specify some multiple of 25 (such as 25, 50, or 75) for the quantity, or the program will not allow you post the assembly.
Note: If you selected the Allow Negative Inventory Levels option in the Options form, you can post assemblies for which there are insufficient item quantities in stock.
