- Select the cells you want to change.
- Right-click the table, and then click Format Table.
- In the Format Table dialog box, click the Cell Properties tab.
- Under Text Box Margins, enter the margins you want.
- Click inside the table cell where you want to insert the tab.
- Press CTRL+TAB.
Lock or unlock the size of cells

Select the cells you want to change.
- On the Table menu, do one of the following:
- To lock the cell size, clear the Grow to Fit Text check box.
- To unlock the cell size, select the Grow to fit Text check box.
Note Diagonally divided cells will not grow to fit text.

Select two or more adjacent cells that you want to combine.
- On the Table menu, click Merge Cells.
If the cells contain text, the content of each cell appears in the merged cell.
Note To split merged cells, select the cell, and then click Split Cells on the Table menu.
You can divide table cells diagonally only if you are working on a print publication.
- Select the cells you want to change.
- On the Table menu, click Cell Diagonals.
- Click either Divide down or Divide up.
