Installing LANSA on Windows

How to Export from the IBM i

To export objects to Visual LANSA using the Housekeeping facilities, follow these steps:

1.  Sign on to the IBM i.

2.  Sign on to LANSA using the desired LANSA partition.

3.  Go to the Housekeeping Menu.

4.  Select the option to Work With Lists of Objects to be exported.

5.  Create a new export list containing all the objects you wish moved to the PC.

The export list must be created as target system type WIN.

6.  Export the objects. When you export objects, you must decide if objects are being exported for Read only or Maintenance on the workstation. If the objects are being exported for Maintenance you must specify a Task ID number and a PC Name. The Task ID number should correspond to the Task ID assigned to the user who will be accessing the exported data, and the PC Name should correspond to the user's workstation.

The data will be exported to a shared folder with the same name as the export list.

Note: Task tracking must be enabled in order to export objects.

When a LANSA for i mass export completes execution, it creates a IBM i shared folder containing all the exported material. This exported material is in a format ready to be used by the LANSA Import facility.

Refer to Exporting and Importing in the Housekeeping Components of LANSA in the LANSA for i User Guide for full details of how to prepare and execute large scale mass exports to Visual LANSA systems.

Tip

To save time, set up a "standard" list of fields (e.g. DATE, TIME, LISTENTRY, etc.) and system variables (e.g. *DATE, *TIME, *BLANKS, etc.) as an export list. The list might be called LPC_STDO. These objects should be exported as READ ONLY. This list should be regularly maintained and re-exported.
