2.3.1 General Questions
Following are some frequently asked questions about the LANSA Windows software installation/upgrade:
Do I want to Install or Upgrade?
If you wish to keep your existing LANSA software and install a new system, then you will use the Install option. Do not perform an Upgrade. An Upgrade will replace the existing software. An Install will allow you to install a new system.
You can install more than one version of the LANSA software.
Note: If you wish to update an existing new system, select the Modify or Repair an existing install option as the LANSA .
Can I install more than one copy of a LANSA product on a single machine?
Yes. You can install more than one copy of a LANSA Product on a single machine. For example, you could have a Version 12 LANSA for the Web Administrator and a Version 13 LANSA for the Web Administrator installed on the same machine. Or, you could also have two copies of the Version 13 LANSA for the Web Administrator installed on the same machine.
If you wish to have more than one copy of the same LANSA Product installed, just install LANSA into a different directory using a different database instance.
These different installs or instances are entirely independent. They can be run concurrently or independently. Just locate the program folder and execute the particular LANSA feature you need to use.
Can I run more than one install program at a time?
No. Always allow the first installation to complete before you run the next install program.
Because you can install a number of LANSA software products at the same time, you should not need to run more than one install – on the same workstation.
When should I use the Typical install versus the Custom install option?
The Typical install should be used in most circumstances. The Typical install asks the fewest questions and uses the default settings. Using the Typical install, you are still able to specify the software install location (if required).
The Custom install is provided for experienced LANSA developers. The Custom option allows you to choose the products you wish to install and to change the default installation and configuration settings. It is your responsibility to ensure that the software installed using the Custom install will operate properly.
