Capacitance/Inductance
The NI 4072 uses a 2-wire, multi-tone, constant current technique to measure impedance. When a multi-tone constant current source (Isrc) is applied to the device under test (DUT), the NI 4072 measures the fundamental and third harmonic of the voltage waveform.
Note Bold values denote vector quantities or complex numbers. |
When the current and voltage are known, the NI 4072 calculates the capacitance or inductance using FFT peak analysis.
If the residual series impedance (Zs) and the stray parallel admittance (Yp) introduce a significant error in the measurement, the NI 4072 can measure the magnitude of the error and reduce it using compensation techniques. For more information, refer to the OPEN/SHORT Compensation section.
Refer to the NI 4072 section for the measurement ranges on the NI 4072 for the capacitance and inductance modes.
