Insert a choice group
A choice group is a control on a form that is used to present a set of mutually exclusive choices to users. By default, a choice group contains two choice sections, one of which appears to the user as the default choice on the form.
When users move their mouse pointer over the default choice on the form, a shortcut menu button appears in the upper-left corner of the choice group. Users can click this button to see the options for removing or replacing the default choice.
For example, if you want to collect addresses from employees who are located around the world, you can design choice sections that account for the varied address requirements of different countries and regions. When filling out the form, employees can replace the default address section with one that applies to their own country or region.
Insert a choice group (automatically create the data source)
When you insert a choice group onto your form, you can have Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003 automatically generate the data source. If you do this, InfoPath creates groups that are bound to the choice sections inside the choice group. In addition, InfoPath creates a "virtual" group that is bound to the choice group. Virtual groups are identifiable by the name (choice) in the data source.
- In design mode, place the insertion point where you want to insert the choice group.
- If the Controls task pane is not visible, click More Controls on the Insert menu.
- In the Controls task pane, select the Automatically create data source check box.
- Under Insert controls, click Choice Group.
A choice group containing two choice sections appears on the form.
- To add controls to the choice sections inside the choice group, do one of the following:
- To add controls to the default choice section, drag the controls that you want from the Controls task pane onto the choice section that is labeled Choice Section (default).
- To add controls to the alternative choice section, drag the controls that you want from the Controls task pane onto the choice section that is labeled Choice Section.
- To test the choice section, click Preview Form
on the Standard toolbar. To offer more than two options to users, you can insert additional choice sections inside the choice group. To do this, place the insertion point inside the choice group, and then click Choice Section under Insert controls.
Insert a choice group (bind to an existing group)
- In design mode, place the insertion point where you want to insert the choice group.
- If the Data Source task pane is not visible, click Data Source on the View menu.
- In the Data Source task pane, right-click the group that you want the choice group to be bound to, and then click Choice Group on the shortcut menu.
Note If Choice Group is not on the shortcut menu, the group to which you are trying to bind the choice group may not support this type of control. Choice groups can be bound only to virtual groups. In the data source, virtual groups appear as (choice).
- To test the section, click Preview Form on the Standard toolbar.
