Does the serial hardware have built-in support for protocols such as SDLC and ModBus?

Because the serial hardware uses UARTs for communication, protocols such as SDLC and ModBus are not supported in hardware. However, these protocols (or their derivatives) can be supported by software applications that handle the protocol translation.
