By default, Microsoft Office Document Imaging performs
optical character recognition (OCR) automatically
when you scan a document, using your computer's normal language settings.
Office Document Imaging can perform OCR on documents in any installed language
dictionary.
Scan and recognize text in a foreign-language document
- Position the document on your scanner.
- On the File menu, click Scan New Document, and then select the preset you want to use.
- Click
Preset options, and then do one of the
following:
- If you want to create a new preset specifically for foreign-language scanning, click Create new preset. Type a name for the new preset and click OK.
- If you want to modify the existing preset so that it always uses the foreign language you select, click Edit selected preset.
- On the Processing tab, select the language you want from the OCR Language list.
- Click OK.
- Click
Scan.
If you selected the Original is double sided or Prompt for additional pages check box, the Microsoft Office Document Scanning dialog box reappears.

To save the file, click Done after the last page is scanned.
Recognize text in a previously scanned foreign-language document
- Open the document in Office Document Imaging.
- On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the OCR tab.
- Select the language you want from the OCR Language list.
- Click OK.
- On the Tools menu, click Recognize Text Using OCR.

If a confirmation message appears, click OK.
- If your document has more than one page, select the options you want in the Recognize Text using OCR dialog box, and then click OK.
