About importing documents

Importing is a method that allows you to create a digital image of a document that was created in another program that you can then send in e-mail as a fax to others, annotate, modify, archive, and share with others who use Microsoft Office Document Imaging or another imaging software program. You can import any file created in a program that is installed on your computer, and that can be printed from that program. When you import a file, the file is saved in either Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) or Microsoft Document Imaging Format (MDI) to a location on your computer's hard disk and opened in Office Document Imaging.

Import preferences

To choose the file format or location on your hard disk for importing documents, you can use the Preferences button in the Import dialog box at the time you import, or you can set your preferences at any time by using the File Import preferences button on the Other tab in the Options dialog box (Tools menu) .

Caution  The Microsoft Office Document Image Writer print driver is installed with Microsoft Office Document Imaging and is used to import documents. Do not delete or uninstall the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer print driver from your computer.
