To allow someone to help you with your computer by using Remote Assistance

You can ask another person to help you with a problem on your computer from their computer—unless one of you is in a corporation and the network administrator has turned this feature off. You both must be using computers running Microsoft Windows XP.

  1. In the main window, right-click the contact from whom you want help, and then click Ask for Remote Assistance.

    —or—

When you are in a conversation, click Start Remote Assistance in the sidebar.

  2. Once the invitation is accepted and Remote Assistance opens, the person you have asked for help must click Take Control at the top of the Remote Assistance window to start using your computer.

You'll be able to type messages, talk, and send files in the Remote Assistance window, just as you do in Windows Messenger. The person who is helping you can see your screen and use your computer. You can take back control at any time by pressing ESC or clicking Stop Control.

For help with Remote Assistance, click Help in the Remote Assistance program.
