Open a sent file

Windows Messenger .NET

To open a sent file

When a photo or other file is sent to you in an instant message, you will be asked to accept or decline it. (If you are in a corporation, you may not be able to send files if your network administrator has turned the feature off.)

  • After you accept the file, you can open it immediately by clicking the link in the conversation window.

—or—

  1. In either the conversation window or the main window, click the File menu, and then click Open Received Files.

    The folder will open and display the list of files sent to you.

  2. After you have checked to make sure that the file is virus-free, double-click the file to open it.

* Caution!

Be suspicious of files sent to you when you are not expecting them. Before opening a file, send an instant message to the sender to verify that the person sent it. Viruses often lurk in files that appear to be sent by someone you know.
