Turn on Windows Messenger features that are blocked by Windows Firewall
Windows Messenger needs to have permission from Windows Firewall to connect to the Internet to use features such as file transfer, voice and video, Application Sharing, and Whiteboard. This permission is established by using the Exceptions list in Windows Firewall.
In Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), Windows Messenger is automatically added to the Windows Firewall Exceptions list the first time you log on to .NET Messenger Service. If you later remove Windows Messenger from the Exceptions list in Windows Firewall, you will need to follow this procedure.
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this procedure.
- Click Start, click Control Panel, click Security Center, and then click Windows Firewall.
- Click the Exceptions tab.
- Click Add Program, click Windows Messenger, and then click OK.
Note
- For more information, search for Windows Firewall in Windows Help and Support Center.
