Editing an executable file

Open the file you want to edit by following the instructions given in Open a file.

You can now modify the program memory contents, data memory contents or the Option byte settings.

To modify the program memory contents or data memory contents:

  1. Click on the appropriate tab at the bottom of the display area.
  2. Over type either any hexadecimal values you want to change or any visible ASCII characters you want to change in the display area. ASCII characters are automatically updated when you change hexadecimal characters, and the same vice-versa.
  3. To modify the Option byte settings:

  1. Click on the Options tab at the bottom of the main window.
  2. The available options are listed in the left hand column with their value descriptions in the right hand column.
  3. ST option bits have only two states: 0, 1. Unprogrammed state could be 0 or 1 depending on the device. To change the status of an option, click on the option name or its current setting. Click on the ( alt ) button which appears beside the option to display a drop down menu from which you can select a new setting.
  4. NOTE: Make sure you save your changes before exiting STVP by clicking on Save in the File menu (or pressing the alt button).
