Parameters in italics are optional and should be included only when appropriate. If you leave out a parameter when you type a command, FTP prompts you for the required information.

FTP does not recognize these commands without an open FTP connection.

Note: 
  Local paths follow the same conventions as NTFS, HPFS, CDFS, POSIX, or DOS. Paths on the FTP server can follow different conventions, depending upon the system.
