Creating a Settings File

An FTP settings file contains all the settings chosen from FTP menus. It also includes the current position of directory windows in the FTP window. If you connect to one or more FTP servers and save a settings file, the settings file saves the current connection information. If you have specific settings you use for a particular FTP server, you can save them in a settings file, which you can reload the next time you connect to that FTP server.

FTP settings files use the .fs extension. By default, they reside in the user directory.

To load a specific settings file, either click Open on the File menu or specify the settings file from the command line window.

To create a settings file:

  1. On the File menu, click New. This creates a new FTP (.fs) settings file or loads a default settings file if one exists.
  2. On the Connection menu, click Open.
  3. Specify the information required to connect to the desired FTP server, then click Open.
  4. Choose all the necessary settings for this connection from the FTP menus.
  5. On the File menu, click Save As.
  6. In the Save As dialog box, type a name for the file in the File Name box.
  7. Click Save.
