Viewing a File

You can view a file using the application associated with its file extension.

To view a file:

  1. Select the file.
  2. On the File menu, click View File.

If you cannot view a file by its association, you can create an association in Windows Explorer or using FTP. This association is between a file and an application, so that the application starts when you open the file.

To create an association using FTP:

  1. On the Options menu, click Preferences.
  2. On the General tab, select the Viewer box, then type an application name and extension, for example: notepad.exe.

If there is no association, the default FTP viewer attempts to open the file. If you select a remote file, FTP transfers the file to the defined temporary directory. If you do not have a temporary directory defined, you receive an error message. If the file is executable, FTP attempts to start it from the temporary directory. If the temporary directory does not include all necessary files to run the program, an error message appears.
