A structure representing a hierarchical relationship between elements (nodes). There is one node at the top level of a tree (the root). Underneath the root, there can be multiple children. Each child may in turn be the parent of other children, thus branching like a tree. A folder containing documents and other folders is a typical example of a tree structure.
