Configuring Switch Modules
To configure a switch module, complete the following steps:
- In the configuration tree, right-click the module you want to configure and select Properties. For SCXI switches, you also can configure the switch module by opening the SCXI Chassis Configuration window and clicking Details next to the desired switch.
If you are using a remote RT target, expand Remote Systems, find and expand your target, and expand the chassis. Right-click the switch module you want to configure and select Properties.
The Module Configuration window opens with the following tabs:
Terminal Block/Topology Settings
Click the Terminal Block/Topology tab to set up the following switch module settings:
Terminal Block/Accessory—Select a terminal block from the Terminal Block drop-down list. The drop-down list contains only terminal blocks compatible with the selected module.
Note Not all switch modules have terminal block settings. Refer to the NI Switches Help for more information. In some cases, the terminal block selection implies a specific topology, so MAX automatically selects the appropriate topology for the selected hardware. Topology—Select a switch topology from the Topology drop-down list. The drop-down list contains only topologies compatible with the selected module and terminal block combination.
Channels Settings
Click the Channels tab to set up the following channel settings:
Load Channels—Lists all channels available for use with the switch. Click a single channel, and use the arrow buttons to move the channel between the Load Channel list and the Source Channel and Reserved for Routing Channels lists. You can select a range of channels by holding down <Shift> while selecting channels. You also can select multiple individual channels by holding down <Ctrl> while selecting channels.
Source Channels—Add channels from the Load Channel list that are used as sources. Any attempt to connect two channels listed in the Source Channel list results in an error. The driver protects against both explicit (direct) and implicit (through other connections) connection of source channels.
Reserved for Routing Channels—Add channels from the Load Channel list to route signals across the switch. By placing channels in the Reserved for Routing column, you instruct the driver that nothing is directly connected to the channel, freeing it for routing. Reserved for Routing Channels are also referred to as Configuration Channels.
- Click OK in the Module Configuration window when you are finished.
Note If you make changes in the property pages of the device, the device automatically resets when you click the OK button. Changes cannot take effect until a reset occurs. |
- For SCXI switch modules, click OK in the SCXI Chassis Configuration window.
