When you search your computer, the results appear in the Microsoft Windows Desktop Search results window. You can sort or narrow these results, or you can filter them so that you see only a particular type of file. You can also use the preview pane to quickly view, open, or work with the contents of a file or document.
When the Windows Desktop Search results window opens, an icon appears next to each file to identify its file type. For example, the 
icon appears next to Microsoft Office Word documents. The 
icon appears next to e-mail attachments that are Microsoft Word documents.
Note
You can preview most items in the Windows Desktop Search results preview pane. However, full previews of Microsoft Office documents aren't available if you're running Office 2000.
