Use a template to create a file for a document library

- Open the Microsoft Office XP program that you want to use to create the file.

From the New File task pane, click Templates on my Web sites.
If the New File task pane is closed, click File, and then click New.
- If you've created a shortcut to the team Web site where you want to create the file, double-click it.
If you haven't created a shortcut to the team Web site, you must create a shortcut.Windows 2000 or Windows Millennium Edition
- Double-click Add Network Place.
- Click Create a shortcut to an existing Network Place, and then click Next.

Type the URL of the Web server.

Type a name for the shortcut to the team Web site, and then click Finish.
- Double-click Add Web Folder.
- Click Create a shortcut to an existing Web Folder, and then click Next.

Type the URL of the Web server.

Type a name for the shortcut to the team Web site, and then click Finish.
- Double-click the template file for that document library.
- Type the content for the new file.
- Click File, and then click Save.
- Type a name for the file, and then click Save.
- Depending on how the document library is set up, you may be prompted to enter information about the document. Type the requested information in the boxes provided, and then click OK.
If you have added a file to a document library and it doesn't appear in the list, click the Refresh button in your Web browser.
