Virtual Name Mappings

This table represents a mapping between the physical name of an instrument and the associated virtual name. To create and configure a new mapping, click the Add button. To remove a virtual name mapping, highlight the virtual name and click Remove.

The table contains two fields, as follows:

  • Virtual Name–Enter the virtual name you have chosen in this field. IVI uses virtual names to allow the application program to use one set of names for all possible specific drivers. For example, an IVI specific driver might name channels A, B, and C, while you might choose to name them Chan1, Chan2, and Chan3. In this example, A, B, and C are physical names defined by the software module. Chan1, Chan2, and Chan3 are the corresponding virtual names used by the application program.
  • Physical Name–Enter the physical name string that is associated with (or mapped to) the virtual name.
