2.8 Example Windows Workstation Setup for LANSA Open

Following is a brief guide to the steps required to configure a Windows client running a 32 bit application over LANSA Open using the TCP/IP Communication Extensions.

In this example, the client is communicating with an IBM i system named AS400PC1.

1.  Ensure that TCP/IP and the LANSA Communication Extensions are running on the IBM i.

2.  Install Windows TCP/IP Software from Control Screen / Network. Configure this software following the vendor's instructions and information provided by your network administrator.

3.  Once you have TCP/IP installed and configured on both your workstation and host, test your configuration by running "ping" from your workstation to the host.

4.  Install LANSA Open, including the LANSA Communication Extensions option.

5.  Start the LANSA Communications Administrator to define the route of the host as described in the following steps.

6.  In the LANSA Communications Administrator's main window, select the New button to open the Host Routes Information dialog box and enter the details as shown here:

Partner LU Name

AS400PC1

Fully Qualified Name

The address of the host. This may be:
- a simple host name for a host (AS400PC1) in the same domain;
- a fully qualified host.domain name;
- an IP address in nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn format supplied by your network administrator.

Communications Method

Socket

All other fields

Leave blank.

 

7.  Press the OK button when complete.

Your Windows 32 bit LANSA Open application will now use TCP/IP Socket communications with the host AS400PC1.
