Troubleshooting

Z-Tool

Troubleshooting steps:

Ensure that:

  • Your device is plugged in

  • Your device is turned on

  • The cable between your computer and your device is properly connected

  • The cable's driver is properly installed

  • The COM Port has not been opened by another application

  • The COM Port settings are properly set

  • The COM Port's status is set to Enabled

  • "Auto Scan" option is selected

  • The device is responding to SYS_PING command sent by Z-Tool

Troubleshooting steps:

Usually it takes Z-Tool about 5-20 seconds to start up.  If your startup time is significantly longer than this, then you may want to try the followings:

  • Under Settings -> Serial Devices, highlight and disable all COM ports that are not used.

  • If you are not using socket connection, make sure "Scan all socket connections", under Socket Devices tab, is unchecked.

  • Close other running applications.

Troubleshooting steps:

You may have a virtual Bluetooth COM Port or simply a bad COM Port.  Try disabling all the unused COM Ports in Device Manager:

  • Right click on  My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware -> Device Manager.

  • Expand "Ports (COM & LPT)"

  • Disable all the unused COM Ports.

In addition, you can also try removing unused COM Ports in the registry:

  • Start -> Run

  • Type "regedit" and hit OK

  • Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> HARDWARE -> DEVICEMAP -> SERIALCOMM

  • Remove all the COM Ports that are not listed in your Device Manager (make sure you have a backup of your registry first)

Troubleshooting steps:

Ensure that:

  • The device is responding to SYS_PING command

  • The Capabilities field in the SYS_PING_RESPONSE message contains all the expected groups

Troubleshooting steps:

Ensure that:

  • Expected parameters are listed in TI.MasterKeyListDev.xml or TI.MasterKeyListNwk.xml

  • The device is responding to NV Read commands for all parameters

  • All NV Read responses have SUCCESS Status

Troubleshooting steps:

Ensure that:

  • Folder list under Settings -> Scripts -> Script Folders are up to date

  • The folders that contain your scripts are added to Script Folders list

  • Your scripts have the extension ".zjs"

Troubleshooting steps:

Upon startup, Script Window tries to search for all script files (files with extension .zjs) in user's specified Script Folders.  All subfolders are also searched.  Ensure that:

  • Folder list under Settings -> Scripts -> Script Folders are up to date

  • All unnecessary subfolders are deleted
