3. Attach the volume to your instance. See How to Attach the Volume to an Instance.

4. Partition and format the volume. Then, copy the operating system. See How to Make an Amazon EBS Volume Available for Use.

5. Mount the volume. See How to Make an Amazon EBS Volume Available for Use.

6. Configure the instance to meet your needs.

7. Unmount the volume. See How to Detach an Amazon EBS Volume from an Instance.

8. Create a snapshot of the new volume. See How to Create an Amazon EBS Snapshot.

9. Register the snapshot as an AMI. See How to Register the AMI.
