Subsequent Times

This section describes how to create a public AMI backed by Amazon EBS, based on previously created AMIs.

To create an AMI

  1. Launch an Amazon S3-backed instance. See Launching and Using Instances.

  2. Create a Amazon EBS volume from a previously created snapshot. See How to Create an Amazon EBS Volume.

  3. Mount the volume. See How to Make an Amazon EBS Volume Available for Use.

  4. Configure the instance to meet your needs.

  5. Unmount the volume. See How to Detach an Amazon EBS Volume from an Instance.

  6. Create a snapshot of the new volume. See How to Create an Amazon EBS Snapshot.

  7. Register the snapshot as an AMI. See How to Register the AMI.
