How to Modify Snapshot Permissions

This section describes how to modify permissions for snapshots that you created.

[Note] Note

When the snapshot is complete, its status will change to completed and the percentage will change to 100%.

AWS Management Console

To describe snapshots

  1. Log in to the AWS Management Console and click the Amazon EC2 tab.

  2. Click Snapshots in the Navigation pane.

    The console displays a list of current snapshots and their status.

  3. Select a snapshot and click Permissions.

    The Modify Snapshot Permissions dialog box appears.

  4. To make the snapshot public, select Public. To only expose the snapshot to specific users, select Private and enter AWS Account Numbers. When you are finished, click Save.

    The console modifies permissions for the snapshot.

Command Line Tools

To describe snapshots

  • Enter the following command.

    PROMPT>  ec2-describe-snapshot-attribute snap-78a54011

    Amazon EBS returns permission information for the snapshot.

    SNAPSHOT snap-78a54011

  • To make the snapshot public, enter the following command.

    PROMPT>  ec2-modify-snapshot-attribute snap-78a54011 --add all

    Amazon EBS returns permission information for the snapshot.
