Starting or Stopping the Shared Variable Engine on Windows Vista

You cannot use the System Manager to start or stop the Shared Variable Engine (SVE) on Windows Vista. Use the Windows Service Manager to start and stop the SVE. You must possess administrator privileges to perform this action in Vista.

Complete the following steps to start or stop the SVE using the Windows Service Manager.

  1. Select the Start Menu.
  2. Enter Services in the search field.
  3. Select Services from the Programs list that appears. If necessary, enter a user name and password to obtain administrator privileges.
  4. In the Services window, right-click National Instruments Variable Engine and select Start or Stop from the shortcut menu to activate or disable the SVE.
