Creating, Modifying, or Deleting Shared or Network Variables

You can create shared or network variables within processes on a local or real-time target.

Complete the following steps to create a variable with the System Manager.

  1. Select an existing process in the system tree or create a new process.
  2. Right-click the process and select Add Variable from the shortcut menu to display the Shared Variable Properties dialog box.
  3. Configure the variable in the Shared Variable Properties dialog box. You can use this dialog box to configure settings such as the variable name, data type, and buffering.

You now can use the variable in an application. When the process is running, the Watch List view updates to include information about the variable such as current value, timestamp, and quality messages. Quality messages list errors and other conditions that apply to the variable.

Modifying a Shared or Network Variable

Right-click the variable in the system tree and select Edit Variable from the shortcut menu to display the Shared Variable Properties dialog box.

Deleting a Shared or Network Variable

Right-click the variable in the system tree and select Remove Variable from the shortcut menu.
