Tips for a successful data import

ACT! Premium Web 2005 Server

  • Outlook contacts import from your Contacts folder and any subfolders of your Contacts folder located on your computer.

  • Imported Outlook contacts and their companies appear in the Contact List view but not the Company List or Company Detail view. To get the company to appear in the Company List view and Company Detail view, you must add the company and then link the contact.

  • When you import information, such as appointments, notes, or journal entries, you can map the data to contacts you imported from Outlook or to other contacts in your ACT! database.

  • Outlook appointments and tasks are imported as ACT! activities; notes and journal entries are imported as ACT! notes.

  • Exchange contacts import from your Contacts folder, any subfolders of your Contacts folder, and the Exchange Server's Public folders, including the Contacts folder stored on the network.

  • You cannot import records from the Global Address List.

  • In the Contact Map screen, if importing Exchange contacts, you may need to manually map the fields.

  • When you import contacts from the Palm Address Book, events from the Palm Date Book, and tasks from the Palm To-Do's, privacy settings are retained so that contacts, events, and to-do's remain private in ACT!.

  • Imported Palm contacts and their companies appear in the Contact List view but not the Company List or Company Detail view. To get the company to appear in the Company List view and Company Detail view, you must add the company and then link the contact.

Importing data from the Palm Date Book

  • Events, including timeless events, import as ACT! meetings and are scheduled with your My Record. The events' alarm settings, recurring options, and notes also import.

  • Past events that have not been erased, import as ACT! meetings that must be cleared. You may want to erase past events in Palm Desktop OS so that you do not have to clear them in ACT!.

  • Once imported, events are assigned a low priority status.

  • Recurring events imported with no ending date are assigned an ending date of 12/31/2031.

Importing data from the Palm To-Do's

  • To-Do notes import as To-Do details.

  • Completed To-Do's import as cleared To-Do's.

  • To-Do priorities import as follows:
