In Windows XP and Windows 2003, for text-to-speech to function for traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, the client computer must have the files for East Asian languages installed. To install these files:

  1. Open the Regional and Language Options control panel.

  2. Select the Languages tab.

  3. Under Supplemental language support, check Install files for East Asian languages.

  4. Click Apply, and follow the instructions for installing the files.

Differences in Word Breaking on Different Operating Systems

Because of platform dependent files, word breaking in Japanese, simplified Chinese, and traditional Chinese might produce different results when conducted on Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008.

Support for English Within East Asian Languages

Neither the traditional Chinese nor the Simplified Chinese text-to-speech engine supports English word reading.

Support for the 32-bit Text-to-Speech Engine on a 64-bit Operating System

To use the 32-bit text-to-speech engine on a 64-bit operating system, run the application in 32-bit mode for both managed and unmanaged processes. For .NET projects, you can configure Visual Studio to build your application with different settings based on the target CPU type.
